Sometimes, you just have to mock Republicans

So now the Republicans are insisting that legislation that has several hundred pages needs to be read aloud on the House floor in order to delay any movement on it. The Democratic Leadership's solution for this is to hire a speed reader to blaze through the entire legislation as quickly as possible.
I've got a simpler proposal: Through the House Rules Committee change that requirement. Instead, the House can hire a reading tutor for each Republican that doesn't know how to read on his or her own. There's no shame to illiteracy. The only shame is in not making the attempt to learn to read.
Just think how useful a skill reading can be. When the Republican Congressthings go to restaurants, they can read the menu for themselves instead of relying on someone else to pick their food for them. When they're driving down the road, they'll be able to read the street signs that tell them where they are for themselves instead of relying on having someone in the car tell them. And I'm sure that the Republicans' move to better themselves and learn new skills will serve them well in their 2010 re-election campaigns.
